Spring Cleaning and Your Windows

Though Roseville, CA doesn’t have the brutal winters other parts of the country experiences, it’s still nice to see spring. And with spring comes everyone’s favorite activity…cleaning. Okay, so not everyone likes doing it, but isn’t it nice when it’s all done? You may have a long list of things you normally do when it comes time to do the spring cleaning. Are your windows on that list? They should be! As you start to enjoy the spring-like weather, here are a few tips to help you get your Roseville, CA windows clean and ready for the summer.

Tip#1: Clean the Screens

Most windows that open have screens on them so you can enjoy the nice California breezes without enjoying the California bugs! The screens take the brunt of the weather elements and they get dusty, dirty and grimy over the winter months. If you can’t see out your windows very well, the screens can be partially to blame. There are a number of ways to clean your screens, but it needs to be done this spring!

If you have a standard aluminum screen, you can remove them from the windows and spray them down with the garden hose. You won’t want to use a pressure washer, as that can be too much power. If the hose doesn’t get all the dirt off, brush debris away with a soft-bristle brush and mild cleaning solution. Let them air dry and then inspect them to make sure there isn’t any more dirt you need to get off. Replace them on the windows and enjoy!

Tip#2: Clean the Glass

Once the screens are clean, there are no excuses not to be able to see the Roseville views…except for the glass! Glass gets dirty inside and out and you will need to clean both sides in order to enjoy the views fully. You may have cleaned the glass inside your home over the winter (especially if you have pets and animals that leave finger and nose prints behind!) but how often do you clean the outside glass? If you have double-hung windows, you can simply tilt the windows into your house to clean the glass. If you don’t, you may have to get out a ladder to get the right height for the windows outside. But it’s worth it in the end!

Tip#3: Clean the Frames

If you have vinyl windows, cleaning the frames is a breeze. You can just wipe them down with a damp cloth and they look as good as new. If there’s any stubborn dirt, it’s okay to use a mild cleanser too. It doesn’t take too long and makes a big difference in the appearance of your home.
